Welcome to Lil Professor® - School Days. Take a peak inside the 1st Issue...

SOKAAT, which stands for Saving One Kid at a Time, is proud to announce the release of the Little Professor and His Friends® comic book series.   The series will focus on making the relevant, real-world connection across academic and social issues impacting the lives of kids.

This concept of educational, yet entertaining comic books was created by Gary Smith Sr. during a teacher-planning period in the spring of 2007.   While speaking with several teachers on curriculum related issues, Gary offered using comic books as an alternative method to reach students with various learning styles.

The artistic element of this project was provided by the talented Steve Prince.  Valerie Prince, Steve’s wife, was responsible for creating the supplemental learning CD.  With the additional help of Dwayne Lucas and Jacqueline Blackwell, Gary’s vision was brought to life.

The book’s main characters are members of the original teacher planning period crew.   Another character,  Dre, is a former student of Gary’s who offered up a few character drawings at the project’s outset.  Mudah is Gary’s real-life son and serves as the Little Professor’s brother in the book series.

Finally, the two custodial staff members depicted in Volume 1 are actual members of the custodial staff and serve as the additional function of role models for both teachers and students alike.

The next installment in the Little Professor series is scheduled to be released mid-year 2010.  In this issue, the colorful cast of characters will venture into the realm of handling gangs and peer pressure at school.  This is going to be a powerful series to help us all learn how to combat the impact of gangs in our community and school systems.  Make sure you continue to follow us as an exact release date for this issue is on the horizon.
